How Crane Rental Is Priced in Las Cruces
What goes into a crane quote, and the questions to ask before you book.
We can't give you a price, because the crane company sets that and every lift is a little different. What we can do is walk you through how a crane bill is usually put together, so the quote makes sense when it lands in your inbox.
Most crane work is billed by the hour, and there's nearly always a minimum charge on top of that. A small crane might have a minimum of a few hours, while a big one can carry a full-day minimum because it takes so much longer to set up and break down.
Keep an eye out for the words "portal to portal." That means the clock starts when the crane pulls out of the yard and stops when it gets back, so the drive is part of the bill. Other companies charge a separate fee to bring the crane out and take it home again. Neither way is wrong, but you should know which one you're paying for.

Questions people ask
Is travel time billed?
Often, yes. Some companies bill portal to portal. Others charge a separate fee to bring the crane out. Ask which one.
Why is there a minimum charge?
The crane and operator are tied up for the trip, setup and teardown, even on a short lift. The minimum covers that time.
Can I lower the cost?
Be ready when the crane shows up. Have the load staged, the path clear and the right people on site. Waiting is billed too.
